One of the most important aspects of a parking lot that is often overlooked is its drainage, which can quickly become the main focus with the expected excess of rainfall. Whether the parking lot flooding is natural or man-made, it is a hazard to drivers or pedestrians and is also very damaging to the parking lot. Even though the parking lot might seem like it’s in good condition on the surface, the pooling water will start to eat away the sealcoating and eventually allow water to seep into the pavement and begin to oxidize and deteriorate the pavement. Today we will look at procedures to put in place to deal with unexpected flooding in parking lots. (more…)

Happy Holidays from PTG Enterprises
Friday, December 19th, 2014It’s beginning to look a lot like…whatever holiday you celebrate. So, Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, and Joyous Kwanzaa! It’s the most wonderful time of the year. But if you aren’t quite feeling the holiday spirit, here are a few tips to help you recapture your youthful exuberance. After all, Santa Claus is coming to town!
Tips to Ensure You Have a Holly Jolly Christmas…Hanukah…or Kwanzaa!
If you are finding it hard to enjoy the holidays amidst work, school, the kids, and all of your other duties and responsibilities, you are not alone. Countless individuals have trouble finding the joy in mile-long checkout lines and crowded mall parking lots. ‘Tis the season to search for a parking spot for 30 minutes.
So how do you stay jolly? Just follow these simple tips!
This is the Real World, Not a Hallmark Card
We all have an image of the “ideal” holiday season. Well, forget it. We do not live in a fairytale world. There are no singing and dancing snowmen here…at least no real singing and dancing snowmen.
Too many people have an idealized version of that the holidays should be, instead of what they really are. By setting realistic expectations about the holidays, you will more easily be able to find the joy in the season.
Focus on Family
The holiday season nowadays is filled with materialism. Maybe it’s time to re-focus your energy on family-oriented activities. After all, the holidays are about who you are with, not what they give you.
Try Volunteering
Take time out of your busy schedule to give back to the community and help the less fortunate. Perhaps you can volunteer at a food bank or soup kitchen. Maybe you can adopt a family and supply them with food, gifts, and clothing for the holiday. Or maybe you want to organize a canned food drive at your office.
There are several ways to give back this holiday season. You just have to find the philanthropic endeavor that brings you the most joy.
Reduce Stress
A lot of times, it is stress that has people dreading the holidays. Fortunately, this is very avoidable with a little planning. Don’t wait until the last minute to send out Christmas cards. Don’t wait until the last minute to shop for presents. Plan ahead and save yourself a headache or two this holiday season.
Happy Holidays from PTG Enterprises!

The Difference between Asphalt Rejuvenator, Coal Tar Sealer and Asphalt Emulation
Friday, July 11th, 2014Think of all of the wear and tear your asphalt installation goes through in a given year. Thousands upon thousands of cars may drive on it; it may endure many different types of severe weather; even sun exposure can contribute to the degradation of asphalt. For this reason, it is important to be proactive about maintaining your asphalt properly. You have three main choices when it comes to asphalt maintenance: asphalt rejuvenator, coal tar sealer, and asphalt emulation. PTG Enterprises’ paving experts can help you decide which option is right for you.
Asphalt Rejuvenator
According to Senior Civil Engineer of Houston, Adil Godiwalla, asphalt rejuvenators “play a major preventative maintenance role as demonstrated by its ability to improve pavement durability, extend it life, and reduce maintenance cost.” An asphalt rejuvenator works by replacing lost bitumens in the asphalt, which both reestablishes the strength and durability of the existing asphalt while adding a new element to it.
Coal Tar Sealer
A coal tar sealer is applied after the initial asphalt application and can be used as the asphalt ages to repair crack, splitting, and other imperfections in the surface. Coal tar sealer can prevent liquids, such as oil and gasoline, from leaking under the asphalt pavement layer and causing damage to its base.
Asphalt Emulation
Asphalt emulation sealer is a relatively affordable option for your asphalt sealing needs. Asphalt emulsion is the process of mixing asphalt with water and other polymers to create an effective sealant. While asphalt emulation can be used to seal the top layer of asphalt, it is often used to bind two layers of asphalt together in order to create a durable, hardy surface.
Selecting the right treatment for your asphalt pavement installation depends on a variety of factors. Let the experts at PTG Enterprises guide you in your search for asphalt rejuvenators, coal tar sealers, and asphalt emulsions.
The paving experts at PTG Enterprises have managed hundreds of pavement projects throughout Baltimore, Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia. You can expect a fair proposal, professionalism, and quality work.

Concrete vs. Asphalt
Friday, June 6th, 2014When it comes to pavement projects, there is an ongoing debate to which material is better to use; concrete or asphalt. To make the best decision for your project, ask yourself a few questions and then research to see which option would be best for you. Things to consider include:
1. Restrictions of material
2. Cost
3. Maintenance
4. Aesthetics
5. Climate
Asphalt
Let’s look at asphalt more closely. Asphalt typically lasts from 15 to 18 years, depending on maintenance and outstanding conditions. Asphalt tends to soften in high temperatures; however repairs can be made easily. As far as maintenance, asphalt needs resealing every 3 years minimum. Asphalt comes in mainly black and doesn’t have any finishing options with it, making customizing its look difficult. Asphalt can become damaged by oil and grease that drips onto the surface. Constant exposure to sunlight and moisture, such as rain, can cause asphalt to break down and eventually crack or ripple. Based on square feet, asphalt tends to be a little cheaper than concrete to install.
Concrete
Now to give concrete some face time. When concrete is laid correctly, it has a life of about 30 to 40 years. It is considered more durable than asphalt overall, but can still crack when exposed to cold temperatures. Repairs to concrete are difficult to make, but do not to be made very often. Concrete can come in a number of different colors and has various finishing options. If substances such as grease or oil should come in contact with concrete, simply rinse them off with no damage done. Based on square feet, concrete can be a tad more expensive to install than asphalt depending on how large of an area you are paving.
PTG Enterprises
When it comes time to making the decision, there is never a black and white answer when faced with either concrete or asphalt. Let the specialists at PTG Enterprises help you make the decision for your paving project. We are trained in handling both materials and will be able to aid in the decision making based on the parameters of your project.

The Benefits of Sealcoating explained from a Baltimore Asphalt Contractor
Thursday, January 24th, 2013Over time, your asphalt parking lot will deteriorate. There is nothing you can do to prevent this from happening. Even the best asphalt pavement will eventually crack and fail. The rate of asphalt deterioration, however, depends on you. There are several steps you can take, from preventative asphalt maintenance to timely asphalt repair to sealcoating, to ensure that your asphalt parking lot looks great for as long as possible.
Do the right thing for your asphalt parking lot and have it sealcoated every 2-7 years, or as needed.
The Benefits of Sealcoating
- Aesthetic Appeal: Freshly laid sealcoat gives your parking lot a dark black color, greatly improving its aesthetic appeal. And remember, you only get one chance to make a good first impression. Don’t let a dull parking lot ruin your client’s image of your business.
- Improves Durability: Sealcoat helps slow oxidation and water penetration, thus extending the life of your asphalt parking lot.
- Stain Resistant: Not only can gasoline and oil stain your asphalt parking lot, but they will also soften the pavement. Sealcoat helps prevent this from happening.
- Slows Fading: Ultraviolet rays from the sun break the links between carbon bonds within asphalt, both fading and damaging the asphalt. Sealcoat helps shield your asphalt from the damaging rays of the sun.
- Ease of Maintenance: Sealcoat makes it much easier to wipe up spills and maintain your asphalt parking lot.
- And so much more!

Concrete Cracking: Is it time to call your Baltimore Concrete Contractor?
Friday, January 11th, 2013When it comes to your concrete, whether it is a driveway, sidewalk, or parking lot, it will eventually crack. That is just life. Even the best concrete cracks eventually. The key to concrete longevity is to address these cracks as they happen…before they get out of control.
Remember the old adage, “a stitch in time saves nine?” Well, the same holds true for concrete. Addressing a small crack when it happens is much easier and much more cost-effective than trying to fix larger or multiple cracks.
When your concrete pavement begins to show signs of wear and tear, you need the help of an expert. So call the concrete experts at PTG Enterprises before that small crack becomes a major issue. Our crews are the best available and they use only the best materials and equipment around.
Concrete Cracking FAQs
- What Causes Concrete Cracking? Well, there is no one answer. Cracking is typically the result of several factors, including drying shrinkage, thermal contraction, restraint (external or internal) to shortening, subgrade settlement, and applied loads.
- Can Concrete Cracking be prevented? Yes and no. With proper concrete maintenance, concrete longevity can be increased, but eventually all concretes will crack.
- All Concrete Contractors are the same, right? No! Just as in any profession, there are good and bad concrete contractors. And if you choose a bad contractor, your concrete could fail quicker than normal. Improper installation is one of the number one causes of concrete failure.
Do yourself a favor and call PTG Enterprises for all of your concrete needs, both installation and repair. PTG Enterprises are experts with commercial concrete jobs. We work closely with you to ensure the details of the project are fully understood, and that timetables are met.
Our crews are extremely familiar with all types of concrete paving, so you know the job will look professional and last for years to come.

Commercial Snow Removal in Baltimore
Friday, January 4th, 2013January is here and we have already had our first snow sighting. This is great for the kids, but a headache for business owners, like you. Snowfall means a disruption to your normal business. And in today’s economy, you cannot afford to lose a day of income.
But here are a few things to keep in mind this winter season:
- Safety is Important: Ignoring snow removal could be more costly than paying a commercial snow removal company. For starters, ignoring snow removal means a disruption to your business, a disruption you most likely cannot afford as a small business owner. Secondly, if you ignore snow removal and a customer slips and injures themselves on your property, you could be in for some trouble. If this happens, you could be held liable. So don’t ignore snow removal.
- Professionals are Professionals for a Reason: We understand that commercial snow removal can be expensive, but trying to tackle the job yourself could be damaging to your asphalt parking lot, which could cost you even more money! It is probably best to leave this job to the professionals. They have the knowledge and equipment to get the job done right without damaging your parking lot.
Still, if damage does occur to your asphalt parking lot, don’t panic; pick up the phone and call PTG Enterprises. The asphalt experts here have managed hundreds of pavement repair projects and have the experience you need.
