There are many ways that your concrete could become a little discolored. But did you know you can get rid of these stains simply by using items you already have in your home?

Because concrete is usually light in color, it stains pretty easily.  From oil to paint, there are many ways that your concrete could become a little discolored.  But did you know you can get rid of these stains simply by using items you already have in your home?  Removing concrete stains doesn’t have to be an expensive, extensive chore.  To discover some creative ways to remove concrete stains, read on.

1. Baking Soda

Many of us like to sprinkle salt over our concrete when ice has frozen over it; salt melts the ice and makes the area safer to walk on.  Unfortunately, copious amounts of salt can also degrade and break down concrete, so using salt over time is a dangerous plan.  Instead, try sprinkling some baking soda over the concrete.  You can also use sand to add some traction if need be.

2. Kool-Aid

Kool-Aid in lemonade flavor is acidic, and works well when used to remove rust stains.  It sounds a little too weird to work, but when you scrub at rust stains with this, they should come out pretty quickly.  Rust stains can form around drains, or underneath metal objects if you leave them on your concrete for extended periods of time.

3. Soft Drinks

Oil stains are perhaps one of the most common stains to occur on concrete.  To remove them, sprinkle some cat litter over the stain and scrub it in, sweeping it away afterwards.  Use cola to scrub at the stain before leaving it sit for about twenty minutes.  Then, mix a solution of laundry detergent and bleach, about ¼ cup each, in a gallon of warm water to wash the cola away.
