PTG knows the importance of giving to those who need it most. Last year, each of our generous employees selected a charity of their choice, and PTG donated $500 to that charity in our name. We donated to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,) House of Ruth, John’s Hopkins Children’s Hospital, and a local GoFundMe fundraiser for an employee’s daughter’s classmate who lost their home in a house fire. If you want to get involved in charitable giving this holiday season, continue reading for information on how to give and a few alternative ways to give back to your community.
Giving To Charity
Giving to charity is important for all those who have the means, as it is always nice to share money or items with those who need it more than you. While charitable acts should not be made with the expectation of financial gain, companies do get certain rewards and benefits from giving back. For example, giving back to your community is a great way to build respect and create a strong reputation with your customers. Your contributions to local charities also have a positive impact by making your area a better place to live, and betters the lives of your employees, customers, and your own family.
Tax Deductions
While it’s important to have the right intentions in mind, companies should also know about the tax deduction for charitable donations. There are a few rules for claiming the charitable contribution deduction, including that you must actually donate (a pledge or promise is not deductible until you pay,) you must contribute to a qualified tax-exempt organization, and you must meet several recordkeeping requirements. These requirements may include saving canceled checks and keeping acknowledgment letters from the charity and appraisals determining the value of donated property.
Alternative Ways To Give Back
In addition to donating money to charities, there are plenty of other ways to give back that don’t cost you anything but your time. One great way to give back this holiday season is to donate your time and volunteer at your local homeless shelter, soup kitchen, senior center, animal rescue center, and more. Volunteering your time doesn’t cost a thing, but it makes a significant impact on those who need your help. During Christmas time, you will likely see many local toy and clothing drives to help those who don’t have the money to pay for their family’s presents or warm clothes. Donate any old coats, shoes, and furniture to a nonprofit, and pledge to buy a few new toys to bring a smile to a child’s face.
