What is Infrared Asphalt Repair?

Asphalt Installation

Infrared is slowly becoming one of the most state-of-the-art and cost-efficient means of residential asphalt repair.

Infrared asphalt repair is a tried and true method to seamlessly repair cracks in

asphalt pavement. It combines hot-mix asphalt with the existing, damaged asphalt

and then compacts the area for a smooth, seamless finish.

If you look at your asphalt surface and notice potholes, divots, cracks, heaving, or

any other kind of uneven areas you may want to consider infrared repair.

What Happens During an Infrared Repair?

The affected area will be swept or blown clean to remove any loose particulates that

may be there. Next, the surface is heated to 325 degrees for 5-10 minutes. This

process can take more or less time based on the depth, season, and existing

aggregate. Once the area is hot enough, it will be raked to remove any failed

aggregate. A rejuvenator is applied to restore any oils lost due to oxidation.

Additional asphalt is applied while raking and grading to the proper level. Once all

of the material is at the right level, it is compressed with a multi-ton vibrating roller

and/ or a vibrating plate.

Why Choose Infrared?

The infrared rays allow for a deeper asphalt repair without causing further damage.

Other methods can cause burning, scaling, or separation from the aggregate. Some

other benefits of infrared repair include:

 Saving money: Since the repairs require fewer raw materials, they can be

much less expensive.

 Saving time: Infrared repair takes far less time than traditional asphalt

repair.

 More water resistance: Asphalt is a porous material and therefore can be

prone to water damage. With infrared repair, there are no joints where the

patch meets the asphalt. This lessens the chance of water damage to your

asphalt surface.

 Smoother finish: Since the infrared repair process binds new asphalt to the

existing asphalt, it creates a much smoother finish than other methods.

 Fewer traffic interruptions: Once a patch is completed, it can be driven on

almost right away.
